Kasumba Sparks Debate After Declaring He Won’t Leave Savings for His Children

Veteran journalist Samson Kasumba has stirred debate on social media after declaring that he intends to spend his savings during retirement rather than leave an inheritance for his children, arguing that the education he provided them is the only legacy they need.

In a post shared on X, Kasumba said that once he turns 60, his focus will be on enjoying the wealth he has accumulated over the years instead of preserving it for future generations.

“After 60 the only investment I am focusing on is eating all my savings,” Kasumba wrote, adding that his children will have to rely on the education and opportunities they received while growing up.

The outspoken media personality said he has already informed his children of his position, noting that if they fail to make use of the education provided to them, the consequences would be theirs to bear.

Kasumba further described many young people today as belonging to an “entitled generation,” but expressed confidence in his own children, saying they have been raised to be honest and independent.

The remarks quickly attracted reactions online, with some users agreeing that parents should prioritize their own financial security in retirement, while others argued that building and passing on wealth remains an important responsibility for future generations.

The discussion has reignited a broader conversation about parenting, inheritance, financial planning and the expectations children place on their parents in later life.
