Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said social commentator Frank Gashumba will apologise to Christians in Uganda following his remarks about pastors he considers fake.
In a post shared on X, Muhoozi stated that Gashumba would apologise to Christians across the country, adding that the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) had no problem with pastors in Uganda.
“Gashumba will apologize to Christians in the country. PLU has no problem with pastors in Uganda,” Muhoozi wrote.
The statement comes amid growing debate over Gashumba’s criticism of religious leaders whom he accuses of misleading believers through claims of spiritual powers and miraculous healing.
Gashumba has questioned the credibility of some pastors, arguing that religious leaders who claim to heal serious illnesses should be able to demonstrate their abilities. His remarks have attracted reactions from people defending the church and others calling for greater accountability among religious leaders.
Muhoozi’s statement signals PLU’s position on the controversy, distancing the organisation from any perceived hostility towards pastors in Uganda.
However, it remains unclear when Gashumba is expected to issue the apology Muhoozi says will be made.
