BET Award winner singer Eddy Kenzo has come out to respond to the trending campaign by angry Ugandans who are decampagning him in fovour of Diamond Platnumz for the African Music Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA).
Eddy Kenzo and Tanzanian star Diamond Platnumz are all nominated in ‘Best Male Artiste of the year East Africa’ category and also identified as favourites to win the award over Harmonize, Mbosso, Rayvanny, Ali Kiba from Tanzania, Rwanda’s The Ben, Khaligraph Jones, Otile Brown from Kenya, and Gildo Kassa from Ethiopia.
However, due to the blend of politics and entertainment industry in Uganda, People Power/ National Unity Platform supporters started a campaign not to vote Kenzo for the AFRIMMA award accusing him of having betrayed the struggle dumping the red camp to a yellow.
While speaking to Boom Gossip, Kenzo insisted he is only a tourism ambassador who is not supporting any political party and not even interested in politics.
“I don’t support anyone in politics; I’m independent and a tourism ambassador. All I want for my country is peace. It is up to the people to vote Diamond or me because he is also East African. I have no problem with that, after all, it has always been me or him,” ” Kenzo said in response to haters.
However, angry Ugandans have blasted him remembering him how he forgot their support to him in the leaked audio last month. Kenzo said he has made his name himself without anyone’s help.
“Ssebo mu audio ye yagamba mbu ‘nze nkoze erinya lyange nga tewali nomu anyambyeeko’ like really??. That means we voters are invisible to him even if we don’t vote for him he will surely win. Kati yeronde anti netasiima ebula ajiwa” – A one Hanifah Lavine posted.
The 7th Edition of Africa’s biggest music award is set to be a virtual affair due to the COVID-19 pandemic on November 15th, 2020.
