There was pain and anger among the people of Makerere University who shockingly lost their fellow residents on Sunday around Lumumba Hall in an act which was described as mob by the police. Despite the police’s stance, some sources came out to blame the LDUs and police who have always brutalised people moving beyond the curfew hours.
The death of Emmanuel Tegu , 24 a student of bachelor’s degree in Animal Production Technology and Management followed a thrilling tension in the country, which saw the police through the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, Patrick Onyango dismiss claims that were circulating that Tegu could have been killed by the Local Defence Unit. Onyango in fact hailed LDU personnel for having come to his rescue after being attacked by a mob.
The video clip which was posted by musician Nubian Li has however left the public in a fit of anger, with questions arising on why someone could be brutalised in that manner. This comes a few days after a 29 year old motorcyclist identified as Hussein Walugembe, set himself ablaze and died at a police station in Masaka after his motorcycle had been impounded.

So absurd! How a man in uniform (#Updf and UgandaPolice) can brutally torture another yet he should be protecting this fellow human being regardless of the matter. The #Unruly! pic.twitter.com/ZZtfh3uoAG— Nubian Li (@NubianBukenAli) July 5, 2020
