Union Wellness Day Launched to Promote Healthy Living Through Physical Exercise Union Wellness Day has been launched at Kampala

Playground in an initiative aimed at encouraging Ugandans to embrace regular physical exercise and improve their overall health.
The inaugural workout session, held today, attracted several personalities, including renowned kickboxer Moses Golola, alongside other participants who took part in various fitness activities.
Speaking at the launch, Frank Mawejje, Head of Boda Bodas in Kampala, said the initiative was introduced after organisers realised that many people spend most of their time seated, a habit he said exposes them to lifestyle-related diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
“We found out that most of our people spend most of their time seated, so we decided to create this day. This will help people reduce diseases like pressure, diabetes, among others,” Mawejje said.
He added that many health complications affecting people are associated with a lack of physical exercise, calling on the public to make fitness activities part of their daily routines.
Mawejje expressed hope that the initiative would become a regular programme, proposing that at least one day every month be dedicated to collective exercise.
He also revealed that organisers are considering establishing a regular schedule for the workouts, adding that they expect a bigger turnout at the next session scheduled for Friday.
Meanwhile, Hajji Yasin Ssekindi, Chairman of the Uganda Taxi Operators Federation (UTOF), said the initiative is intended to promote healthy living and improve people’s wellbeing through yoga and other physical activities.
Ssekindi said organisers expect more people to turn up in large numbers next Friday as they continue mobilising the public to participate in the wellness programme.
The launch marks the beginning of an initiative intended to bring people together through physical exercise while raising awareness about the importance of maintaining healthy lifestyles.
