Ugandan musician Tracy Melon has opened up about a difficult health battle that saw her repeatedly hospitalized and lose 13 kilograms, revealing that there were moments when she was unsure whether she would live to see the next day.
Tracy Melon, whose real name is Tracy Mirembe, shared the emotional revelation while reflecting on what she described as one of the most challenging periods of her life.
The singer said months of health complications took a heavy toll on her physically and emotionally, leaving her struggling to come to terms with the reality of her condition.
“I have been battling with health complications to an extent that if I start talking about it, I feel like crying because I had quite a difficult couple of months here. But I am glad I am better,” she said.
Mirembe revealed that the experience transformed the way she views life and human interactions, urging people to show compassion because many individuals are silently fighting personal battles.
“When you see people walking on the street, be kind because when they go back to their homes, everybody is battling with something,” she said.
The musician noted that social media often paints an incomplete picture of people’s lives, with many choosing to share their happiest moments while concealing their pain.
“When you see me post on social media today, you might not know that last night I was caught in between life and death, not knowing whether I would wake up tomorrow or not,” she said.
According to the singer, the illness resulted in dramatic weight loss, with her body changing significantly due to frequent hospital admissions and prolonged treatment.
“Now for me, I have lost weight. I have lost like 13kgs. I have lost so much weight,” she revealed.
She also addressed public speculation about her appearance, saying some people wrongly assume her weight loss is the result of lifestyle choices rather than health challenges.
“A lot of people will be like whatever you’re using, stop it. I wish I could stop it, but it’s not my calling. It just happened because of constantly being in hospitals, in and out,” she explained.
Despite the hardships, Mirembe says her condition has improved and she remains grateful for the progress she has made.
“But now I am recovering and I am very grateful to God,” she said.
As she continues her recovery journey, the singer hopes her experience will encourage empathy and understanding, reminding the public that behind every smile, social media post, or public appearance, there may be a struggle that remains unseen.
