The newly elected mayor of Arua City, Lawrence Alionzi, popularly known as “Dangote”, has officially been sworn into office of the Mayor for Arua City in a ceremony attended by political, religious, and community leaders.
The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Conrad Obol, who administered the oath of office to the new city mayor. Also present at the event was Bishop Henry Luke Orombi, whose presence added significance to the occasion as hundreds of supporters gathered to witness the transition of leadership in the city.
During the ceremony, Alionzi pledged to serve the people of Arua diligently and promised to focus on improving service delivery, road infrastructure, sanitation, and youth empowerment. He called for unity among political leaders and residents, saying the city’s development should take precedence over political differences.
“I am ready to serve all the people of Arua regardless of political affiliation. This victory is for the people, and together we shall work to transform our city,” Alionzi reportedly told supporters after taking the oath.
The event also marked the official handover of leadership from former Arua City mayor Sam Wadri Nyakua, who previously led the city administration. Nyakua congratulated the incoming mayor and urged him to prioritize unity and development while addressing the challenges affecting residents.
Several leaders who attended the ceremony praised the peaceful transition of leadership and encouraged the new administration to work closely with both government agencies and local communities to improve livelihoods in the city.
Supporters of Alionzi filled the venue with celebrations, waving banners and chanting slogans in support of the new mayor. Security remained calm throughout the ceremony as residents expressed optimism about the future leadership of the rapidly growing city.
The swearing-in officially ushers in a new political chapter for Arua City, with residents now looking forward to the implementation of the promises made during the election campaign.
